About the Colors used on this Site

spectra colors

The colors used in the navigation bar for this website were chosen based on the emission peaks of commonly used fluorescent molecules shown above. Texas red and rhodamine are often used as tags for secondary antibodies as well as the actin-binding toxin phalloidin. Monomeric RFP1 is fluorescent protein isolated in the Tsien lab at UCSD (see PNAS USA. 2002 Jun 11;99(12):7877-82), it is used like other fluorescent proteins (such as GFP) in the construction of fluorescent fusion proteins that may be imaged in living cells. DAPI is used to stain nuclei. DiO (Molecular Probes) is a green variant of the lipophillic dye used to stain membrane compartments in living cells.
